Blue Angels 2024

The Blue Angels zigged and zagged a little more than I did at anchor this year. We had a steady wind, which pinned the anchorage down nicely.

We took some friends out on the water to watch the Blue Angels; this is our 2nd year with this event. We love the show, and it is always a good opportunity to relax and be with the family and friends.

I have to admit that it felt like the crowds of boats this year was bigger than last year. There were literally 100s and 100s of boaters out there. It seemed as if the crowd around us was pretty tame. I was glad we had a strong breeze in the anchor field, because we could see where everyone’s anchor was and everyone was pointed in the same direction.

This guy in the Bayliner snuck up on us just before the show started. I was grilling hot dogs, and he and his crew were fiddling with their anchor. They were just a boat length or two abeam of us, because they dropped their anchor short of where they should have. We swung one time within a boat length away. They were not offensive folks at all, just trying to have a good time. But, after he shut down it engine, grabbed a cold one and hopped onto his inflatable, the boat swung 90 degrees and they started dragging fast. I told him…I think you are dragging. He looked and then he started paddling fast back to the boat to find a different spot. I wasn’t too worried, but the guy behind him in his $2 million MJM was drilling him with his laser eyes.

I just love our aft deck on the HR46. There is plenty of space for me. This is just before they started dragging.

The 6 Blue Angels did not disappoint again this year. There are so many close-up shots that my friend took on his fancy camera. I’ll have to post those another time.

I took a few minutes to admire the boat. We rarely get to enjoy it and not have to work on something. It has been a busy 3+ seasons of work and refits, and now we get to enjoy it all even if it is for 4 hours on a Wednesday.

Rachel was modeling from her perch at the pushpit. Looking good, I’d say. Our Selden boom and vang make a nice holder for my new 3/8″ Dyneema preventer setup, eyespliced on both ends and held in place by a bungee and clip.

To quote the famous Bobby from Sailing Doodles, “It just doesn’t get much better than this.”

We will definitely be back for the show again in the future. Comparing our anchor position last year and this year, I’d say we were pretty close. We like to be just outside of Back Creek so that we aren’t fighting the crowd of boats getting back in at the end of the show.
