We haven’t posted in a while, because August was filled with work, family and other events. More on that below. For Labor Day we treated ourselves to a family trip up to Long Island Sound. It is becoming our annual trip as the summer winds down.
We were glad to land in Manhasset Bay and find Matt from the town water taxi. He was awesome to help guide us in. We found a free town mooring (yellow), and we hooked up quickly with lots of space between us and our neighbors. The yellow moorings are free, and when you are on the launch taxi, just tell the driver where you want to go, and they will drop you off as close as possible. For us, it was the Stop & Shop dock.
As for the activities that kept us away from sailing, the biggest for us is that Rachel (and Audrey) dropped off Michael to the University of Utah where he will study Electrical Engineering.

I went to Michigan for my mom’s surprise 75th birthday party. She had no idea this was being orchestrated by my sister, Lisa. While there, I also had a great time at my nephew Noah’s baptism. Good to see everyone (and have a steak sandwich).
Can’t forget Audrey turning the big 1-0.

Or Matt starting football and getting his permit…

Or Aaron heading off to his third Scout camp for the Summer.

And Rachel and I? Well, it’s been project after project and work.
Besides troubleshooting the minivan for hours stretched over multiple days (finally fixed it!), cutting down our overgrown bushes, surviving Henri and Ida, we’ve poured a lot of time into fixing things on Skyward.

So many other little projects and activities have put our summer sailing season on pause. It was all worth it. Next stop is Huntington, NY.
