Harness Creek

Anchoring near Quiet Rivers Park this Summer was a restful evening. I can see why it is so popular among locals.

We visited Harness Creek in late July 2024 seeking a simple and quiet evening at anchor. It is very close to our marina, which made it convenient to push down to the anchorage on Friday after work. Although the typical low wind Summer on the Chesapeake Bay, the trip had a calming effect on all of us.

On the way, we snapped some great pictures of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. I thought it was cool that I could catch both a sailboat and another ship in between an anchored ship and the lighthouse. All of these boats and the lighthouse are different distances away from us as I was looking North.

Harness Creek is a popular anchorage alongside Quiet Rivers Park. I spent some time there about a month earlier with our dog, Astro. Quiet Rivers has a dog “park” or fenced-in section so that dogs can run free on a beach area.

We navigated up the channel and midway up Harness Creek just past our very dear friends on Grace. Grace is also our dock “neighbor” on Back Creek.

We had a great night doing family things, having fun, playing games and eating a nice meal in our cockpit. Sitting down to eat in the cockpit marks a moment on our journeys where we transition from sailing and anchoring to relaxing. We get creative and push the boom out of the way to give us a clear view of the sky.

In the anchorage, we enjoyed the sun setting and dusk conditions. Looking farther up Harness Creek towards the West, the sky and clouds turned a fire red and pink color then within just a few moments, the sun was set and the lights all came on.

A picture of Grace in the moonlight left us stunned as we stared at it for what seems like several minutes. We were only in about 8 feet of water, but it didn’t matter. The water was calm and we enjoyed every minute of it. The next morning, we awoke and paddle boarded up Harness Creek. After lunch we packed up and headed back to our home. Everyone needs a quiet night at anchor.
